  10. 1973-80:       Developed operating systems, compilers and run-time
  11.                support systems, user management system for DEC-10.

  14. 1978:          Sabbatical leave at the Rekencentrum, Tech.
  15.                Hogeschool Eindhoven, Netherlands. 
  16. 1981- :        Deputy Director, Computer Centre, University of
  17.                Auckland. Responsible for campus system software and
  18.                for the development and coordination of campus
  19.                networking.

  21. Networking activities:

  23. 1985:     BITnet link Auckland - Victoria Universities. 
  24. 1986:     Supervised development of Blue Book file transfer
  25.           tunneling to provide BITnet link via X.25 to NetNorth in
  26.           Canada.
  27. 1989:     I was instrumental in setting up the Tuia Consortium, an
  28.           informal internetwork of all three of New Zealand's
  29.           research networks. 
  30. 1990:     Co-ordinated design and implementation of the Kawaihiko
  31.           IP network connecting all the NZ Universities.
  32.           Participated in PACCOM meetings.
  33. 1991:     Developed PC/DECNET DLL interface for NCSA Telnet. August
  34.           PACCOM, Nov. IEPG.
  35. 1992:     Member of Frame Relay technical working party for TuaiNet
  36.           backbone.  March and November IEPG and IETF meetings.
  37.           IETF Working Groups: Operational Statistics, Internet
  38.           Accounting. Implemented first version of Internet
  39.           Accounting Meter, currently developing next version of
  40.           Internet Accounting MIB.

  49. I have seven year's experience in all aspects of networking, with
  50. extensive participation in Auckland University's campus network,
  51. and Kawaihiko Network (linking the seven New Zealand universities),
  52. Tuia (New Zealand's "NREN"), PACCOM (the Pacific Communications
  53. consortium), IEPG and IETF. This experience gives me a thorough
  54. understanding of how the Internet is constructed, and the problems
  55. of co-ordinating activities within it, for example those relating
  56. to its growth and development. I represent a small country at the
  57. outer edge of the Internet which has been quick to realise the
  58. benefits of internetworking.  I believe this gives me the
  59. understanding to represent small countries effectively.

  61. I have furthered long-standing interests by being actively involved
  62. in the IETF's Internet Accounting and Operational Statistics
  63. Working Groups.  We need better monitoring methods to improve the
  64. performance of our networks.  Internet Accounting willl give us a
  65. tool to measure the traffic flows generated by users or groups of
  66. users. Such measurements will become an essential aid in developing
  67. networks both large and small.

  69. Overall, I believe that access to the Internet should be available
  70. to everyone everywhere - 'the ubiquitous Internet' - at an
  71. affordable cost.  I have always been an active member of any group
  72. I belong to, and will work to develop the ubiquitous Internet as
  73. a long-term goal.
